International Students

Catering to International Students

Our faculty is experienced in providing valuable pastoral care to help students develop socially, academically and culturally.

We understand the challenges of international students and we believe in establishing a strong community spirit that encourages friendships and adapts to their academic needs. The welfare and progress of our students is our primary concern.

EF International Academy works individually with each student to ensure they gain a healthy and fulfilling experience when pursuing their high school studies abroad.

Your personal tutor guides you
Each student is assigned a personal tutor whose role is to monitor the student’s academic progress, university applications, and general welfare. Personal tutors meet with students twice a day and then have longer sessions with students to discuss test results, progress in class, and
homework. They provide you with expert guidance on how to reach your full potential and achieve high grades.

Parental involvement
Parents are encouraged to maintain regular contact with their son or daughter’s personal tutor. We organise an “Open Day” to welcome parents and guardians to the campus in the spring. The headmaster or headmistress will meet personally with parents to discuss any issues and arrange
meetings with personal tutors or subject teachers when appropriate. We contact parents promptly if there is anything we feel we should discuss about their son or daughter’s welfare, conduct, progress, or achievement. Parents and guardians who are visiting a student’s host countr y are always welcome to visit our schools.

Regular progress reports
In the course of the academic year, parents can expect to see regular grade reports. Students will complete practice examination papers and will receive constructive feedback intended to improve their academic performance. Written reports from subject tutors, feedback from
personal tutors, and year-end academic reports will be sent to all parents. Parents may also follow students’ progress by using the EF online portal. Parents can go online at home to check students’ grades, follow school news and read up-to-date notes from teachers.

Thorough preparation from your own University placement advisor
EF International Academy has a wide network of partner universities who value the expert education our students receive. Each student is assigned a university placement advisor upon arrival. From the start of your programme you will receive regular briefings from your advisor so that you know exactly what is required of you in order to apply to university. Your university placement advisor provides detailed support through the entire process, from deciding where to apply to helping choose which offer to accept.

Career advice
Our career services directors work individually with each student to plan a career strategy. Students will receive full counselling and support to help them discuss with their parents which EF International Academy courses to select. As part of the programme of career advice, we use detailed questionnaires and individual mentoring to ensure the right career pathway is selected. As part of the tutorial programme, we will focus on the needs and aspirations of each individual while encouraging their highest aims and expectations.

Additional support from your educational counsellor at home
For many students, this will be the first time living abroad. We understand the anxieties and concerns that parents and students may have when embarking on this important educational step. We provide additional support through your EF educational counsellor, with whom you meet before departure and who is available to speak to you or your parents (in your native language) at any point during your time abroad. Our staff at EF International Academy work closely with your educational counsellor to make sure that your needs are met.
